Usher Komugisha is a multiple award-winning sports journalist who has worked for the world’s biggest media outlets including Al Jazeera, BBC, CNN, ESPN, Sky Sports and SuperSport as a television broadcaster, producer and reporter.
A jack of all trades, she has also worked as a writer for FIBA and is a commentator for the Basketball Africa League – the first league organized by the NBA outside of North America. She commentated the historic inaugural game of the BAL between the Patriots of Rwanda and Rivers Hoopers from Nigeria on May 16, 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda.
Usher has covered some of the biggest sporting events in the world including the 2011 World University Games in China, the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China and was an in-studio analyst for Al Jazeera during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Doha, Qatar.
Her work has been recognized on the continent including winning individual accolades at the 2018 La Nuit des Veterans in Douala, Cameroon as well as being named among the Top 100 Most Influential Young Africans by Avance Media in Ghana a year later.
She scooped the inaugural African Woman in Sport Award at the GSport Awards in South Africa in 2020 for her excellence in covering African sports stories on the global stage.
The following year she was named among the Top 500 Most Influential Africans in the World by Tropics Magazine. During the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics that run in 2021, she used the hashtag #KnowHerName on Twitter to highlight especially Black Women excelling at the biggest sporting event in the world.
Usher is also a host and moderator. She has moderated high level events including a panel discussion with the FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe at the Commonwealth Business Forum in June 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda.
She attained a Masters in Football Business Management in Barcelona in the summer of 2023. She is currently pursuing an Executive MBA at the prestigious University of Manchester. She speaks 18 languages and is passionate about travel, food and fashion. She plays golf regularly, loves bird watching and mountain hiking.
